2019 Poke Sallet Festival Performers
Since the release of their debut album in 2000, BUILDING 429's Jason Roy (vocals), Michael Anderson (drums), Jesse Garcia (guitars), and Aaron Branch (bass) have tirelessly and passionately exhorted the faith community with popular battle cries such as “Where I Belong” and “We Won’t Be Shaken.” Their songs have also reached the peak of the radio charts, holding the No. 1 spot with “We Won’t Be Shaken” on Billboard’s Hot AC/CHR chart and AC Indicator for multiple weeks, eventually resulting in a nomination at the 2014 Billboard Music Awards (Top Christian Song). “Where I Belong” (from 2011’s Listen To The Sound) also became one of the longest No. 1 singles in Billboard history of Billboard’s Christian charts with a whopping 15 weeks at the top. “Where I Belong” went on to be named 2012 Christian Song of the Year and recognized as BMI’s 2013 Song of the Year.
Building 429 also received recognition with a GRAMMY nomination in 2013 for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album (We Won’t Be Shaken), a K-LOVE Fan Awards nomination in 2014 for Best Group or Duo of the Year, Billboard’s 2012 Christian Songs Artist of the Year and Christian AC Songs Artist of the Year.
Through their songs and their high energy live shows, GRAMMY-nominated Building 429 is a band that has been touted throughout their 18-year career as “authentic and amazing – uplifting and unforgettable,” along with being “truly focused on bringing glory to God.” Their latest album, Unashamed, released in the fall of 2015, and their brand new album, titled Live the Journey, was released in September of 2018.
Building 429 will headline the main stage of the Poke Sallet Festival on Thursday June 6, 2019 at 8:00p.m. The event is sponsored in part by Harlan Christian Church and New Covenant Church.
"Bad Obsession" a Guns N' Roses Tribute Band, will headline the Main Stage Friday June 7th at 9:00p.m. If you love the hits from one of the greatest rock bands of all time, you will not want to miss this concert!
Pam Tillis will headline the Main Stage on Saturday June 8th at 9:00p.m.
Walker Montgomery, son of John Michael Montgomery (Poke Sallet Festival headliner in 2015), will perform at 7:30p.m.
As the child of Country Music Royalty, Pam Tillis was determined from a young age to find her own way in music as a singer and songwriter. After many false starts with her own recording career, including a pop single on Elektra and 1984’s “Above And Beyond The Doll Of Cutey” for Warner Brothers, Tillis came to the attention of Tim Dubois who headed up the Nashville office of Arista records. After much soul searching, Tillis made the commitment to make an honest country record. The album “Put Yourself In My Place” yielded 2 number ones, 2 top five singles, and one top twenty hits and in its first year the album was certified gold. Tillis followed with 3 platinum albums on Arista “Homeward Looking Angel” in 1992, “Sweethearts Dance” in 1994 and an Arista “Greatest Hits” in 1997. Tillis achieved 6 number 1 songs during this time including “Shake the Sugar Tree”, “Mi Vida Loca”, “When You Walk In The Room”, “In Between Dances” “Don’t Tell Me What To Do” and “Maybe It Was Memphis” while 14 of Pam’s other singles landed in the top ten and top twenty.
Walker Montgomery brings a high energy show to the Main Stage! He moved to Nashville Tennessee after graduating high school to focus on his music career. He has released several singles in the past year and is in the process of writing more music.
Walker has been a big hit at numerous venues around Kentucky and in Nashville. He even took the Main Stage at the Poke Sallet Festival in 2015 with his father John Michael Montgomery to be introduced to the crowd and sing one of John Michael's number one hits alongside his dad!
Pam Tillis fell in love with music at an early age. Band, chorus, talent shows, church and the creative community of Nashville all helped to shape the young singer. Growing up, Pam was in a variety of bands, spanning from jazz and alternative country to top 40. She sang demos and lent her voice to many national jingles including Coke, Country Time Lemonade and a Coors Silver Bullet with country superstar, Alan Jackson. At the same time, Tillis worked as a staff writer for Elektra Asylum Publishing and later took a job writing for Warner Brothers Publishing, which resulted in her songs being recorded by some of the biggest names throughout all genres of music, including artists like Chaka Khan, Juice Newton, Dan Seals, Gloria Gaynor, Conway Twitty and the top ten "Someone Else’s Trouble Now "for Highway 101.
Pam has performed on the stages of Broadway in New York, modeled on the pages of Glamour Magazine and is a proud member of The Grand Ole Opry. Some of Pam’s most memorable award moments are being a 3-time CMA award winner including the prestigious 1994’s Female Vocalist Of The Year Award, and being nominated multiple times for Grammy’s Best Female Country Vocal Performance in 1993 for “Maybe It Was Memphis, in 1996 for “Mi Vida Loca” and in 1998 for “All The Good Ones Are Gone”. Pam is also proud to be a 9-time Academy of Country Music Award nominee, a 2-time Grammy award winner and 6-time Grammy nominee, and an American Music Award’s nominee. Most recently, Pam has celebrated an IBMA award win in 2004 for Recorded Event Of The Year “Livin’ Lovin’ Losin’” and most recently a 2012 IBMA Song Of The Year nomination for co-writing, Dale Ann Bradley’s “Somewhere South Of Crazy”.

The Bowling Family will perform on Saturday,
June 8th, 2019 from 4:15-5:30.
The Bowling Family combines talent, sincerity and experience to create a memorable concert experience. Their goal for the evening is to usher in the presence of God and celebrate the Christian message. They feel privileged and honored to enjoy the freedom to honor Christ with any and all of their abilities.
The group consists of Mike Bowling and his wife, Kelly, their daughter Hope and longtime friend Troy Peach. They bring you their stories and songs in a way that is reminiscent of days gone by. To watch them perform reminds us of a time when "all night singings" were the norm, and folks lined up early to visit with the singers and musicians. As in most things, musical styles come full circle. What is old is new, and what is new is old!! Musically, Mike, Kelly, Hope and Troy make us realize this. Somehow they have created a sound that is as refreshing as the sounds of the early 70s. Mike has often been referred to as the vocal stylist of the day; however, the completion is so obvious with Kelly, Hope and Troy by his side. History will note that they have been true to the excellence of their ability without diminishing or distancing the listener. Refreshing!!!
The Bowling Family is no strangers to the Christian music world having a long list of accomplishments during their vocal careers. While Mike began singing and playing piano at a very young age, he had a very impressive musical beginning at only 16 years old; a two year span with the legendary LeFevres. Mike then went on to earn a degree in Respiratory Therapy before returning to the music world. In 1995, he joined the New Hinsons, a perfect blend considering Mike’s vocals are very distinctively similar to those of the late Kenny Hinson. After lending his vocal abilities to several of their high-charting songs, Mike went on to join another successful family group, the Perrys. While with the Perrys, Mike was featured on songs such as "God Sent Angels," "By Faith I Can Touch Him Now," "Not Even A Stone," "Redeemed," "When He Spoke," and many others.
After Mike’s marriage to Kelly, Kelly sang with her family…the Crabb Family, Mike spent the next six years traveling as a soloist garnering a tremendous amount of success. In fact, he has been noted as the first Southern Gospel soloist to achieve back to back number one positions on the Singing News Top 80 charts. Kelly spent more than 15 years with her family, The Crabb Family. During that time they were the recipients of three GRAMMY nominations, 11 Dove Awards, 16 number one songs and numerous other accomplishments. Kelly’s unmistakable voice could be heard on the family's hits "Don't You Wanna Go," "Good Day," "Jesus Will Do What You Can't," "Trail Of Tears," as well as singing harmonies on all the others. After the birth of the Bowling's third child, Kelly realized it was time to join her husband on stage as The Bowling Family.
The Bowling Family has appeared on the Gaither Homecoming series concerts and videos, TBN, during Gospel Music Week’s Dove Awards, at GMA’s Seminar in the Rockies and numerous other major events. Their debut release, Faith To Believe, has garnered a record four number one songs (“We Have A Saviour,” “Your Cries Have Awoken The Master,” “A Miracle Today” and “Notified”), as well as the 2008 Song of the Year (“Your Cries Have Awoken The Master).
The Bowling Family is excited to be in ministry together. They know that all roads have led to this time and this place! God's timing is perfect and they are aware that much work must be done. The world is in need of the Gospel. The power of a song as a tool to reach the masses, once again is witnessed. The careers and ministries that Mike, Kelly, Hope and Troy have enjoyed thus far is humbling for them. Life has been sweet. But,oh how sweet is the thought of a young family, a "new" vision, passion and gratefulness for the collective calling, as a family? As long as there is a song and a place to sing it, the Bowling Family is committed to making Gospel music together. With Mike and Kelly’s other two girls, Katelanne, and Gracie, in tow the future is bright, and who knows how many Bowling girls will be on that stage with them in the future!
